Be Wise Small

    Snippets

The hardest reading of all is reading between the lines.

Nobody is conceited.  If you don’t believe it, just ask him.

Don’t be too quick to judge; you may become guilty.

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”  (Benjamin Franklin)

Anger stirred, becomes wrath; wrath stirred, becomes malice; malice stirred becomes bitterness.

No person ever becomes suddenly bitter; it takes time–you have to cook it slowly.

A local university has an event called  "Night Of Decadence."  Where are we headed, people?

Indifference often comes out of affluence.

It is not time for satisfaction.  We’re not there yet.

It’s hard to hear when your mouth is open.

    A Poem To Remember

“We search the world for truth; we cull
The good, the pure, the beautiful,
From graven and written scroll,
    From all old flower fields of the soul;
And weary seekers of the best,
We come back laden from our quest
To find that all the sages said
Is in the book our mothers read.”

              –John Grenleaf Whittier

    Joseph–Man of God

Joseph is one of the most interesting characters in the Bible.  His life was exemplary, his attitudes and character worthy of emulation.

He was kind (Genesis 40:7-8).
He was humble (Genesis 41:16; 45:7-9).
He was wise (Genesis 41:33-57).
He had great faith (Genesis 45:5-8).

    Journal Notes

“It occurs to me that a preacher must approach his life with a degree of confidence, but without pomposity; not with superiority, but as one with the people. It fact, I suppose that to be a good course of pursuit for everyone.”

“What a blessing it is to have brethren at your side.  They make the difficult times easier to bear and share the joy when times are good.”

“It’s interesting to me when you stop and think about it: we’ll spend extra hours at the gym in an effort to keep our physical bodies in good shape, but only a minimal amount of time in and effort to care for our spiritual being?  Which one do we suppose will last the longest?”

“I have to work some tomorrow on my column for Mark’s e-mag.  My creativity is not at a very high level right now.  But, as I’ve often remarked, ‘there’s this strange connection between inspiration and deadlines.’  It is not time to rest.”

“In my opinion, meditation is fast becoming a lost art.  Our thinking today is dominated by external observations, leaving little time for internal reflections. People don’t know what they’re missing who don’t take time to stop and think.”

“The Bible is about people–all kinds of people–each with a lesson for those who take the time to read it.”

“Yesterday, I dropped nearly everything I picked up.  Some days are like that.”

    Shorties

Work is not nearly as imposing if the goal is in sight.

Life is a matter of looking out, looking around, looking up and giving only slight attention to looking back.

Balance is not determined by him who thinks he has it.

Time marches on with little or no regard for what happens as it goes.
