It Happened!
When something is especially good, folks sometimes refer to it as a happening. Well, we had a happening this past week. The Lectures were outstanding—in every way. The singing was superb, the preaching was some of the best you’ll hear anywhere, the kind of spirit that was present among the people was electric, and the whole event was edifying. It was a great week by any standard of measurement. I absolutely loved it, didn’t you?
The Southside Lectures are always a special time for our people. For twenty-three years they have provided us a source of spiritual refreshment and a stimulus to new spiritual growth. Every year, a month or two following the lectures, the elders meet to discuss whether the event is still effective in encouraging our people, reaching the lost, and otherwise stimulating our local work. While the lectures are well-attended by saints from the area and from abroad, they are intended as a help for this local church. They are only effective as they inspire the growth of our

Over the past several months I have been receiving information in the mail concerning a “brotherhood” effort to evangelize the whole United States in one great effort. The idea is to pool financial resources from churches all over the country into one fund, and use that fund to pay the expenses incurred in mailing out the brochure to every household in the nation. The brochure tells about God, His word, and the plan of salvation. Those overseeing the effort explain the plan in these six points:

About two weeks ago, I had to replace an exterior door on our house. It had to be replaced because my dog destroyed the old one and Dad was going to be back in a few days. So, I went to the lumberyard and bought a new door. Now I’m not much of a carpenter and I lack experience in the areas of construction and repair. However, with a little figuring here and there, I was able to see what needed to be done to hang this new door.
