Among the recurring themes in Acts of Apostles is the “day by day” continuance of the Lord’s disciples. It was the day by day constancy of the early church () that resulted in its unparalleled unity and growth. “Day by day” they continued. “Day by day” they increased. “Day by day” they examined the scriptures. “Day by day” they reasoned with the lost. “Day by day” the Lord added to their number those who embraced the gospel message.

It is the small “day by day” spiritual investments that make the kingdom light shine, the kingdom salt savor, the kingdom leaven spread. The habit of “day by day” discipleship builds Christian character, stunts the world’s encroachment, and finances the kingdom’s advancement.

It is “day by day” preparation and planning that will make our exploration of “Themes from Act of Apostles” a successful venture in our Twenty-first Annual Southside Lectures. The June 19-22 program date is 29 days away! That’s twenty-nine opportunities to make a small spiritual contribution toward the success of our lecture program. That’s 29 invitations, 29 prayers, 29 thoughts of anticipation, 29 small deeds that plant the seed for a fruitful harvest. Your small, single “day by day” investment is not much until it’s added to the “day by day” investments made by the 299 or so other saints that comprise this congregation.

29 small spiritual decisions by 300 saints results in 8,700 seeds planted in anticipation of a spiritual harvest made secure by the Lord’s promise: “My word…shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it” ().

Let us plant “day by day” in faith that the Lord will make good His promise to reward our diligence. He did for the early church. He will for those who follow the pattern of the early church—not just the pattern of their organization and worship and work, but the example of their “day by day” dedication. “Let us not grow weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” ().

What will you do today along with your 299 fellow saints who are “day by day” getting ready for our Southside Lectures? Continuing day by day together, this year’s lecture program can be our best program ever. The subjects are timely: “Themes from Acts of Apostles.” The congregational singing led by Brother R.J. Stevens will be spiritual and edifying. The speakers—Colly Caldwell, Weldon Warnock, Frank Walton, and Chuck Durham—will apply the record of the early church to our current situation and needs. Get ready. Get set. “Day by day.”
