Russ Bowman

Russ Bowman

Russell Jay Bowman was born in Lubbock, Texas on August 16, 1962.  His family moved to Deer Park in 1976 when his father, Dee, came to work with the Southside congregation.  After graduating from Deer Park High School in 1980, Russ earned his A.A. from Florida College in 1982, an Upper Division certificate the following year, and a B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Houston in 1985.  He began preaching during his college years.

Brother Bowman worked with Harold Turner in Saratoga, Arkansas during the summer of 1982.  He labored with his father in the preacher-training program at Southside from 1984-1985.  For eight years, he preached for the Belt Road congregation in Texarkana, Texas.  Since 1993, Russ has done an effective work with the Northwest church in Beaumont, Texas.  During that same time, he has also made evangelistic trips to India (1999) and the Czech Republic (2011 and 2014).

Russ married Tracy Haley in 1991. They have three daughters: Haley and husband Will, who live in Tampa, Florida; Tori, and Emily. Tori and Emily, along with Russ’ mother, Norma, and sister, Denise, are members at Southside. We are blessed to have them along with the legacy of Dee’s 45 years in the pulpit here.

Brother Bowman’s preaching is characterized by a sincere and passionate desire for “What Says the Scripture?”  Welcome home, Russ!
